Who We Are

PracticeCLB (practiceclb.com) is an independent AI-powered English language practice platform operated by a sole proprietor based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We are not affiliated with Paragon Testing Enterprises or any official CELPIP testing body.

What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

• Account information: Your name and email address when you register.
• Practice responses: Written text and audio recordings you submit for AI scoring.
• Usage data: Pages visited, questions answered, session timestamps — used to power your progress dashboard and improve the platform.
• Payment information: We do not collect or store payment card details. All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc.
• Exam date and target CLB level: Entered voluntarily in your settings to personalise your study plan.

How We Use It

• To provide AI scoring and personalised feedback on your practice responses.
• To track and display your progress over time.
• To send account-related emails (purchase confirmations, password resets).
• To send practice reminder and study tips emails, if you have opted in (you can unsubscribe at any time).
• To operate the affiliate referral programme.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your practice responses to train AI models.

AI Processing

Your practice responses are processed by the following AI service providers for the sole purpose of generating your practice score and feedback:

• Anthropic Claude (anthropic.com) — scores your writing and speaking responses against CELPIP criteria. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. Anthropic does not use your data for model training under our enterprise agreement.
• Google Gemini (deepmind.google) — generates practice question content, study plan text, and tutor responses. Same data handling terms apply.
• Deepgram (deepgram.com) — transcribes your audio recordings (Speaking practice) to text so they can be scored. Audio is transmitted over encrypted connections. Deepgram does not retain audio beyond transcription and does not use your data for model training.
• ElevenLabs (elevenlabs.io) — generates text-to-speech audio for listening practice exercises. Only the text prompt is sent; no personal data is included.

Data Storage

• Database: Your account data and practice scores are stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted in the United States (AWS us-east-1).
• Audio recordings: Stored in Cloudflare R2, also hosted in the United States.
• Session cache: Upstash Redis, used for rate limiting and daily quota tracking. No personal data beyond a hashed user ID.

By using PracticeCLB, you consent to your data being processed and stored in the United States under the data protection standards of those providers.

Cookies and Tracking

We use the following cookies:

• next-auth.session-token — your authentication session (httpOnly, secure, SameSite=Lax). Set on login, removed on logout. Required for the platform to work.
• pclb_sid — an anonymous session identifier (httpOnly, SameSite=Lax, 30-minute rolling TTL). Set on all page loads for anonymous session tracking. Contains no personal data.
• pclb_ref — an affiliate referral code cookie (SameSite=Lax, 30-day TTL). Set only when you arrive via an affiliate partner link. Contains only the affiliate code string — no personal identifiers. Used solely to attribute your purchase to the referring partner.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies. Vercel Web Analytics collects page view data in an aggregated, privacy-friendly manner — no cookies, no personal data storage, no cross-site tracking.

Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated personal data.
• Withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time (via unsubscribe link in any email).

To exercise any of these rights, email support@practiceclb.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Practice responses and scores are retained to power your progress dashboard. Audio recordings are retained for 90 days then automatically deleted. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time.

Children

PracticeCLB is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We will post updates to this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of PracticeCLB after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
